We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7 pm, on the second floor, at the Spring Lake Fire Company #1 at 1007 5th Ave, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Club business and activities are the primary focus, but we always take the time to socialize and discuss the latest fishing information.

Each spring we hold a Trout Tournament on opening day of New Jersey trout season, specifically focused on child anglers ages 15 and under. With help from local businesses and independent sponsors, we stock over 600 trophy size Rainbow, Golden, and Tiger Trout into Spring Lake. On the day of the contest, we award prizes to all children who catch a fish, with an outstanding grand prize awarded for the biggest catch and special prizes for the top three fish in several age divisions. The year begins with our annual Awards Banquet in February or March. A gala affair with good food and camaraderie, it is our time to recognize and celebrate the previous year's fishing achievements. Trophies are presented for the best catches, and our “Top Gun” for the prior season is recognized. In recent years this event has been held at Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty in Point Pleasant, a renowned restaurant at the Jersey Shore. Not to be missed! Each December, we enjoy a Holiday Celebration open to members and their families at a local facility. Attendees enjoy an informal buffet dinner with food prepared and contributed by club members. This is a great way to end the year!

In late April/early May, we hold a club camping trip to the Delaware Water Gap for several days of shad fishing. We reserve a group of sites at Worthington State Park and enjoy a short diversion from our primary activities in saltwater. Attendees enjoy many hours of friendship, bent rods, and hearty laughs, with some delicious meals along the way.

During the summer, we hold two events focused on fishing for fluke. First, we charter The Big Mohawk party boat out of Belmar NJ to target the rocky bottoms off the Jersey coast in search of hefty fluke. Typically limited to about 30 attendees, this is a great chance to enjoy summer with your fishing buddies. A week or two later, we hold our annual fluke contest, where participants compete from either boat or land to catch the largest fluke. After the lines are out for the day, participants are invited to a local restaurant where the club covers the cost of lunch and sun-weary anglers tell stories of the day’s adventures.

The club also selectively participates in the striped bass surf fishing tournaments that are held each spring and fall among several of the established NJ coast fishing clubs. For many years we enjoyed great success, often claiming victories and overall annual titles. In recent seasons, these competitions have evolved to be more conservation-minded, a mission which SRSA wholeheartedly supports.

Beyond the club’s scheduled activities, we always try to keep up with conservation issues and organize support for rallies and legislative bills. If it affects us and New Jersey fishing, we are concerned about it. We have been a driving force behind the Save the Summer Flounder Program as well as rallying for improved techniques for documenting the status of the coastal fisheries.
